1977 Gibson RD Artist (natural)
Picture taken from ....
The RD Artist was launched in 1977, as Gibsons first active bass guitar. It was a very high quality instrument with a terrific array of sounds, but as was often the case with
Gibson basses, it did not get the attention it deserved in terms of sales figures, and by 1981 had disappeared from the Gibson catalogue. It was available in natural, ebony, antique
sunburst and fireburst finishes, with maple or ebony fingerboards.
The RD artist first appeared in the 1977 RD catalogue and then the 1978 catalogue, along with the RD standard, and a range of RD guitars. The artists models were the first Gibsons
to use active electronics and were powered by a 9 volt battery. The electronics were designed by Moog (another Norlin company at the time) and had built in expansion and compression
circuitry. The artist bass used newly designed mark V active humbucking pickups. The Gibson Product development director at the time was Bruce Bolen. in this 1978 he explains the
vision behind the RD artist.
One of the particular musical qualities that I personally was looking for in one of the models, was a similar effect to that of a steel player - this being the reduction of
the intitial attack and the swell of the note after the initial attack had been made. A steel player of course uses a volume pedal to accomplish this but it was still something missing.
Bob designed a special circuit that would achieve this as well as an expansion circuit unlike any other that had been designed to date.
It has been used by Krist Novoselic.

Ampeg SVT 810E ( RI )
Picture taken from ampeg.com
This is the speaker enclosure people mean when they say SVT speaker cabinet. It’s all about tone. Other than the color scheme, it is identical to the original
SVT-810.
Why eight 10” speakers? We learned early on that 10” speakers work much more efficiently than fifteens or eighteens—and if you put eight 10” speakers together, you can
move a huge column of air. You’d need five 18” or six 15” speakers to move as much air as the SVT-810E! And they simply wouldn’t be able to respond to transient peaks
as quickly as our tens.
The SVT-810E is still manufactured using the same design dating all the way back to 1969. The Infinite Baffle design of these sealed enclosures produces vast amounts of
tightly focused bass. That’s why you’ll find the SVT-810E on stage with such artists as Chris Squire (Yes), Geezer Butler (Black Sabbath), John McVie (Fleetwood Mac), and far
too many others to list here. In the world of high performance bass cabs, the Ampeg SVT-810E stands tall and proud.

Dan Armstrong Plexi Guitar
Picture taken from ampeg.com
In 1969 Ampeg and guitar super-guru Dan Armstrong set about revolutionizing the electric guitar. What came next was "clearly" innovative, technologically advanced
and well, clear! The Rolling Stones took the stage with Keith Richards sporting the 'See Through' guitar and Bill Wyman playing the companion bass. The legend was born.
Ampeg is once again offering this iconic guitar to the public. "See Through" a Dan Armstrong today.
